Having issue with ThunderBird and gmail. Last week had to bring my computer in for repair. Downloaded and tried to use gmail app on phone to access email. I couldn’t log in with the printed ThunderBIrd password list. Have computer back and ThunderBIrd will sign into the account just fine. I have tried cutting & pasting the password over to weblog-in of gmail - no luck. And yes, I tried to send an email to a recovery account but that doesn’t work. Also, I think I have tried to access it too many times now. But why would the password in Thunderbird, that successfully fetches my mail, not work at the gmail web login? Related? Was contacted last week that my email was one of many accounts hacked into and yesterday received an email after someone set-up an account at an online store. Addressed that, but this is weird. My sister who used to work in IT and recommended ThunderBird is thoroughly confused by this. If anyone has any thoughts on this I would love to have them! Much appreciated!

What is your account type, POP or IMAP? If IMAP, what is your Authentication type, Normal Password or OAuth2?

Are you using 2-step authentication for your Google account? If so, did you create an app password for Thunderbird?

I tried to send an email to a recovery account but that doesn’t work.

I'm not sure what exactly that means, but you should address this too.

There are three possibilities for the 'password' stored in TB: the regular account password, the one used to login on the gmail website, an app password created on the gmail account site, or an oauth:// token, generated when the mail account in TB has OAuth2 authentication. The passwords used in TB depend on the type of authentication, the setting in Google for 'less-secure apps', and whether or not two-step verification is on the account. So, there are a lot of chances for a misstep.
