68.4.2 Thunderbird on Mac=big problems; not all email showing in Inbox
Tried some of the posted solutions but didn't find the relevant one
Chosen solution
Thanks for the idea, but I've migrated to Apple Mail. I simply could not continue to try the suggested solutions while additional problems mounted up. It made doing business impossible; I lost one client over the "disappearing Inbox" situation.

and you know not all inbox mail is appearing in the inbox how exactly?
Because people writing to me told me (annoyed about non-response)
Because something that was there at one point in the day disappeared after I responded to it
Because after reading it I could not find it again

Was it even delivered to your mail provider. Despite years of reliability there is no guarantee of delivery in email. So they sent it and you did not see it is not anything more than normal really.

Have you filtered your list perhaps. I responded to a topic this morning where the person complained no mail appeared, but they had the quick filter bar open with an active filter showing in the image they posted.

Did you search using the global search? (Ctrl+K) to locate all mail in Thunderbird or the quick filter (Ctrl_Shift+K) to filter mail in the current folder. Or use Find (ctrl+F) Which will look where you tell it to look.

me: It's just begun in earnest happening since installing 68.4.2. I didn't realize I had OK'd 'install automatically'. It's NOT NORMAL to happen repeatedly all at once

me: I'm not aware of a "quick filter bar". Where would I find it in Tbird for the Mac?

me: These are all new to me. I did try a Find on the entire computer, thinking I might have hit some combination of keys in error and stored it in some arcane location; I was that flummoxed when it started happening. To use the filtering function, do I select all the Inbox mail or just open that menu?
I am not talking about anything outside of Thunderbird. I do not use a mac, last one I used had a 10 inch black and white screen and used 31/2 floppy disks.

Find does not have a support article, but I has been a part of Thunderbird since Netscape, so I guess it falls under "assumed" knowledge. It is on the Edit menu then find and then search messages.
I'll try your solutions. Thanks very much for helping me.
I have additiona problems with 68 but this one was the major dilemma; I'll look for others who have the problems.
Deb
did you determine what the problem was?
What are your other issues. Looking for others with problems will only find someone to commiserate with. Solutions are what are needed.
you: did you determine what...
me: No. I did try your suggestions but they didn't really seem to apply to the disappearance of emails, just ways to find emails already resident somewhere if you knew keywords

me: I was looking for others with the same problem to see what solutions were proposed to them. I have no time—or interest in— to dither around whining to others. I am interested in solutions, tactics, fixes.
In fact, I have an appointment tomorrow to consider migrating to another email app.
you: What are your other issues
me: since the 68 upgrade... 1. menus have changed to tiny type (yes, I've tried the suggested fixes), which aren't Mac oriented.
2. Making colored type changes within email has become too complicated to use any more. I use this to track longer back-and-forth topics with clients
3. Suddenly I cannot check my IMAP settings as something called a Wizard keeps telling me there's already an account with my name (really?)
Going back and forth to Comcast looking at my email to discover email that never made it to my Tbird Inbox or that disappeared after it arrived is time-consuming and annoying to the point of anger.
You must be on the other side of the world; I note that your last correspondence was 11 tomorrow morning.
Thank you again for trying to help me. I'm certainly open to additional suggestions. I must say that Thunderbird doesn't seem to have a grasp of Mac solutions. I understand the difference in the architecture, and that we represent a minority, but...well.
Hi re your other issues - Tiny type does have a Mac solution. Not a Mac user, but I noticed both paths are mentioned and it's only a slight difference at the start. On OS X, it's Preferences/Advanced/General/Config. editor, (instead of Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor). Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx Change the value to 1.25 or 1.5. Try that and adjust larger if needed. The 'chosen solution' in this message has pictures of the results!
I would also suggest posting a separate question about the Wizard (item 3), to see if you can get some help with that. Or, if you did decide to try a different email client, I wish you the best with that. (PS replying from timezone EST.)

Thank you for your advice, I will mark your topic solved then.
