Dictionary pack causes profile to be lost
I downloaded the English dictionary pack, wanting to add it to my Danish one. It worked (Thunderbird version 60.9.1), but when i restarted my PC, Thunderbird had lost its profile settings. I had to get my old profile from a backup I luckily had just made, and delete and overwrite my Thunderbird data (in roaming...). I have now not installed the dictionary pack (Thunderbird has said it is disabled), and I wonder if my problem will return if I enable it. I do quite a bit of writing in both languages, so I really want it. My Thunderbird installation is currently stable. Any thoughts or help?

Go back to 68 and we will work through the issues. I really do not think the dictionaries were the issue, I think it was the update to V68 from 60. But I really am only guessing, but there is a lot of profiles getting lost in the 68 update.

How are you getting the dictionary files?
The format of dictionaries has changed since V68. Is that what you have installed? I would figure installing the dictionaries in V60 might be problematic.
The best way to get dictionaries in 68 is use the get dictionary files link in options > composition > spelling.
I went to create a message (an email) and then to options. From there I went to spellchecking, and in the dropdown menu to select a language chose other. (Mind you they might be called something else, since the menus are in Danish). It then took me to a page where I could select almost any language I wanted, and I could then choose between getting a dictionary and a language pack. I chose the English (US) one.
Also, I rolled back the 68.3.1 update, since that might have been the problem. So this actually occured in 68.3.1. Sorry about not mentioning that.
I checked the log, and it says I had 68.3.1. I had to roll it back to the 60.9.1. version. Sorry if this information was crucial. I am just learning Thunderbird in a more technical manner. (again sorry, it looked like the previous post had been deleted).

Hmmm...
That sounds bad (the update problem). I'll try and see what happens. Reporting back here of course.
Yup, I lost the profile(s) again ... (I use three emails). It happened after I upgraded, and then restarted the computer. What do I do?
I am stuck in the link you sent me. I do not have a standard profile. Should I make one when I start up Thunderbird?
Well, I fixed that, by selecting it as the standard profile, and then starting the profile in a new browser session.
Seems to have fixed it. I downloaded the dictionary, restarted my PC, and everything is fine. Thanks for taking the time to help me out :)
