auto download of messages at start-up
I "REFER TO" emails sometimes but opening the client simply wastes time as I have to make sure and NOT lose any emails and have to wait til it gets done downloading new ones, and a PREVIOUS QUESTION AND ANSWER said to just UNCHECK the "auto download at start-up button, and I DO REMEMBER THAT THUNDERBIRD HAD THIS BUTTON to click on but IT'S GONE NOW!!!!
WHY DO ALL THESE PEOPLE THAT MAKE FIREFOX AND THUNDERBIRD ***REFUSE TO LET THE USERS TO HAVE THE FLEXIIILIITY TO USE THESE AS ***WE*** WANT THEM, e.g.;
1. downloading emails forced on users 2. last update TRASHED MY HAND PICKED THEME 3. MOZILLA ARROGANTLY & FLATLY REFUSES TO ALLOW US TO HAVE ***TABS ONT HE BOTTOM*** THE WAY NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR ORIGINALLY WAS DESIGNED!!!!!!!!!!
~~I could go on and on~~, but for now, I guess, I just need to know how to STOP ALL THIS DOWNLOADING AT START-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if the "check messages at start up" is the same as "unchecking the auto download at start-up", but it's my experience is that programmers say EXACTLY WHAT THEY MEAN!!

Tools/Options/Advanced/Network & Disk Space/Offline..., set the startup state to Offline. When you're ready to get new messages, uncheck File/Offline/Work Offline, or click the icon at the left end of the Status Bar.
