Some of my Bookmarks folders are all of a sudden empty, like the bookmarks have all been deleted somehow??
I have a large amount of bookmarks that I keep in Firefox, and they are divided into folders, so that I know where they are, and what they are for.... Unfortunately, some of those folders are now empty, with no bookmarks in them anymore, and I cannot figure why this has happened. I have certain folders that have several internal folders in them, and they were all full of bookmarks that I needed, but now almost 3/4 of those folders are empty. Has Firefox randomly deleting bookmarks now for some idiotic reason, and if so, how do I get them all back where they belong?? I swear, I am 2 steps away from giving up on Firefox completely now, because very time I blink, something else is not working right, and now I am not even allowed to keep bookmarks. What group of monkeys has taken over the Firefox browser project, and why can't they keep what used to be one of the best browsers out, working correctly?? Can Mozilla PLEASE get their browser back up to snuff, and stop making it fall apart?? I don't want to switch to chrome, or any other browser, but Mozilla's incompetence with Firefox, is going to end up forcing me to!!

Hi, If you can't find all of your bookmarks and bookmark folders in Firefox Quantum (version 57 and above), try this solution:
- Click on the Library
icon on your Firefox toolbar.
- Click on Bookmarks, then click on Bookmarking Tools.
- Click on Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar.
- A Bookmarks Menu
icon will be added to your toolbar.
- Click on the new Bookmarks Menu icon. You should get the same Bookmarks Menu as in earlier Firefox versions.
Hope this helps. Otherwise, try going to your history and try to find the sights that away.
- For other ways to customize Firefox, see Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.
- To learn more about Firefox bookmarks, see [[Bookmarks in Firefox
I have already added Bookmarks Toolbar to my browser, and it is a separate folder in itself, but that is where the missing bookmarks seem to be at....

Sorry, was upset, and pulled a typo on that.... I really wish you could edit a post here, but it is not provided as an option. :(

Hi zlloyd2, do you use Sync? If so, please stop Sync'ing bookmarks (on the Preferences page, Firefox Account section) temporarily while we try to work this out.
Make a Safety Backup of your Bookmark Backup Files
Firefox makes approximately daily backups of your bookmarks for approximately two weeks. Please make a copy of these files before Firefox cycles them out in case you need one of the oldest ones. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Return
In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Show in Finder" button. If Finder highlights an icon with a semi-random name like a1b2c3d4.default, double-click it to display the contents of that profile folder.
Double-click into the bookmarkbackups folder. This should contain numerous compressed backup files. You can copy/paste them to a safe location such as your Desktop.
Reading a Compressed Backup
Firefox doesn't offer a preview tool and other programs generally don't know how to extract the contents. I created a page that can convert the backup file to the classic "bookmarks.html" export format, so you can view it in a tab and see whether it contains what is missing. That tool is here:
https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html
If you try some backup files, can you fine one which still has what you're missing?
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
