Startup Does Not Restore Pinned Tabs, happens too often

1. Session Restore does not restore pinned tabs. I keep about ten, so this is a real burden, trying to remember them all and restore them manually. And it happens about twice a week that I have to restore, so it's no small matter. To me, at least.

2. Also, I still have the problem with using "X" to exit: If there is another window of FF running, and I exit the "main" window first, on restart I will only get the second window. I am so accustomed to using the "X" for all programs and apps. that retraining to use the three-line window and clicking on "Exit" is a challenge for me I try manfully to overcome for this. Which seems idiosyncratic to me. And Ctrl-Shft-Q has never worked for me at all.

Note that pinned tabs are connected to a specific window and each window can have its own set of pinned tabs.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Note that using the close X only closes the current window. If you accidentally close a window and notice that there are other windows still open then use "History -> Recently Closed Windows" to reopen the closed window and close the window you do not need and then close (Quit/Exit) Firefox properly via the File menu or the "3-bar" Firefox menu button.

When you exit the browser, however you do it, the current open tabs and windows are recorded. If you close something before closing the browser, that is not included.

As to quitting the browser, Press the menu button ≡ and select Exit on the bottom.


One thing you can do is to create a bookmark folder and copy the links you want to is. Note: There is an Open All In Tabs option if you right-click that folder.

I didn't understand you at first. No, I don't think it had to do with the "wrong order" issue. They just disappeared once when I closed FF.

I note now that I am presented with one open tab and another called "about:restore*" every time I try to open FF.

Does this also happen when you close Firefox via the Exit/Quit menu item?

If you always get the about:sessionrestore page them you can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Does Firefox update the files in the sessionstore-backups folder and create a sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the main profile folder?
