Visited a Chinese web site which indicated I needed an Firefox update which downloaded but Firefox "about Mozilla page" says no update needed. gcgray2@gmail.co

I visited a Chinese web site which flashed a message indicating I needed an Firefox update which automatically downloaded. However, when I checked if I truly needed an update from the Firefox "about Mozilla page" it reports no update needed.

I suspect the downloaded zipped file "Firefox.update.24750b" has a virus. Happy to email it to someone.

Chosen solution

Yes, you have downloaded a virus. Please feel free to upload that file to https://www.virustotal.com and then delete it from your machine.

After that, please download Malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.com and run a full scan to ensure there is nothing else on your computer.

. Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Anytime you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org {web link}

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery
