How can I type a long dash without a num pad?

Well, the question says it all. My Lenovo does not have a num pad (ie numbers accessed by fn + alt) so unicode seems to be out. I really, really need a long dash. Thunderbird's 'common symbols' are pathetically few and do not include it.

Another way is to select Insert/HTML and type & mdash ; (no spaces, see picture).

Hi Kangalarue, Are you able to enter a dash in other Windows applications? When I do a search for images of Lenovo keyboards, there's a dash key beside the <0> key above the letters. Will that not do?

Hi Chris, Thank you for your reply. On my keyboard I have a hyphen (Short dash) and an (uppercase) underline. But I've found the character map so if I am writing emails (or letters etc) I can store a long dash and Ctrl V it on demand. Thank you for your trouble! Best wishes, Kitty

Thank you very, very much! I'd worked out how to do it with the character map (and then copying and using Ctrl V after the first one) but Insert HTML is so much neater. It looks as though I can also insert maths, were I so minded, too. I'll have to play with that!
