Autofill works intermittently in Firefox But refuses to keep me logged in even during the same session.

I've tried refreshing firefox In Privacy & Security I already have" Use custom settings" checked as I've read to do . It's pretty annoying to have to " sign in" constantly.

Please advise why Firefox is degrading not getting better & how I can fix this. Thank you , Patty Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

What are you trying to sign into? During a session, once you are logged in, you will not be logged out unless you choose to do so.

It's random - sometimes when I open for example " Amazon" I have to sign in , as it won't remember me ( even though I have checked the box) , then when I go to another website & back to Amazon I very often have to sign in again. As I said , randomly it MIGHT remember me if I haven't closed the browser- but just as likely not.

Your ‘logged-in’ status is stored in special cookies. If the cookie is removed, you are logged out.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

That worked for some sites, but not all. Amazon for instance remembered me now, but one of the forums I read daily didn't.

If this is happening more then one sites - it sounds like your browser is either corrupted or something like a Addon/Extensions or Security software is causing the problem login saves. I have it set to save logins and have no issues using that feature.

Does this mean I should uninstall and reinstall Firefox ?

more options

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

You can create an Allow exception to keep specific cookies.

Try to create an Allow exception to keep specific 'remember me' cookies and possibly let cookies expire when you close Firefox. If you clear cookies this way automatically then you keep cookies with an allow exception.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: [ ] "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed"

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an Allow exception you may want to keep

I have tried clearing cookies or not clearing cookies & found no difference.

I will try a clean re-install this weekend . My one hesitation is that I have the same problem on both my desktop AND my laptop. Both running Win 7 pro 64 bit. They do sync together - but of course they are separate installs on separate computers so I find it discouraging that they both have the same problem with Firefox. Patty

Not yet but something is not working right from the sounds of it. Backup your bookmark and download the latest firefox first. Then uninstall it and delete the mozilla folder but make sure you write down any Addon you installed to reinstall them back later. Then delete the mozilla folder and then reinstall the new firefox and test a site you know it works and see what happens before making changes. Then if it works import the bookmark and reinstall your Addons and close and restart and open firefox again. Just a reminder there could be some site that will not allow save but most should but when you do this make sure your not in PB mode. And this could be a Security issue on their side doing this.
