The RETR command errror

Each time I try to receive mail I get the message below:

The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Unable to retrieve rfc822msgid:<fbb6171c40e08c07c0da127e0693b </p>

I have done both of the solutions listed in listings (cleared all spam in my gmail online account and deleted 3 or 4 of the oldest messages. Also tried rerunning Mozilla with add-ons disabled. Reset both my computer (WIN 7 Pro) & Mozilla several times to no avail.
