Another application is attempting to send mail using your user profile. Are you sure you want to send mail?

I email quotes from Peachtree Accounting using Thunderbird as the email client.

All was working fine until this morning. When sending a quote with an email address in the contact record in Peachtree, Thunderbird would open the default email profile with the customized signature content from the profile and the email would be addressed properly. I could customize the body of the email and send it.

If there was no email in the contact record in Peachtree, the same thing would happen except I would have to type the email address, customize the email and press send.

Now when I email from Peachtree, I get a popup that says "Another application is attempting to send mail using your user profile. Are you sure you want to send mail?" When I press OK the popup closes but Thunderbird does not open a write window for editing, nor is the email sent.

Any idea what changed?

Thanks for the reply. I reset the default email app and am now getting an error message from Peachtree Accounting saying "Your MAPI compliant, default e-mail application returned an error. Please try again."

Also I tried going back to a previous version of Thunderbird, but after downgrading it upgrades again. I deselected the option to automatically upgrade Thunderbird.

Any ideas?

I have now found out that I cannot even email a word document. This is highly frustrating to say the least.

sfhowes - Thanks for the additional help. I followed your instructions but the problem remains.

I tried sending via Word and have the same problem so it is not Peachtree. I made Outlook my default email app and it works. When I switch back to Thunderbird it does not work so the problem seems to be with Thunderbird, right?

Whenever this issue comes up, it's a matter of trying to find if the fault lies in TB or some registry setting in Windows, or the sending app, in this case Peachtree. One way to test if it's a Windows config. problem is to right-click a file in File Explorer, Send to/Mail recipient. If a new TB message doesn't appear with the file attached, then the MAPI process in Windows is broken. There are numerous users (not just TB users) who've had varying degrees of success in fixing this. </blockquote> It would appear the Mapi process in windows is broken since I cant send to mail recipient in file explorer as suggested and get the error message so how do you fix it - I appear to be able to send normal emails but not bulk ones or even single ones from "another app" I have looked at all settings (see sfhowes above) and they do not seem to have been changed. Have tried different SMPT servers (TalkTalk and Gmail) but that makes no difference so the fault seems local. Any suggestions?

Is this issue with sending attachments going to be resolved by T.B.?

Since TB did an upgrade I am not able to send an attachment, I have tried all the suggestions and I get no where

In my case there are no attachments - I am just sending emails via TB from non-TB programs. This worked last month! I get the same message when using the Rt click menu in File explorer and using the Send To Mail Recipient.

No attachments from my nonTB program - it should load the compose part of TB and fill in about 15 BCC addresses, the subject and the text body - used for a charity - has worked perfectly for over a year. Failed last month with the error message quoted.. May be due to a TB or a W10 update. I tried the file explorer transfer since mentioned in this thread and got the same error message

I think that the latest "fix" to MAPI basically broke it. From the What's New Notice:

What’s New

fixed Crash when using "Send to > Mail recipient" on Windows under some circumstances (MAPI interface)
   fixed UTF-8 support for MAPISendMail

The current fix does not fix the problem.

Now when I attempt to send an email from an application, Thunderbird at least opens.

However the signature file for the default email account does not enter text into the body of the email and when I hit send, the email is not sent and an error message appears.

Here is how I got the MAPI function to work in TB 60.5.2: download the full installer from here, install over your existing installation, restart the computer.

The problem happens from any app that is set to email using a default email client. The problem happens with MS Word.

I'd like to go back to a previous version but every time I do that, it updates to the latest - even when I turn auto update off.

If you can't send a file from any app, no matter which email client is the default, then the MAPI function on your system is broken. It's a common problem, and there's no single solution (as a quick web search will reveal).

If TB doesn't respect the update setting in Options, make sure you don't have a security program that includes a program update option. I believe this is present in some products such as Kaspersky, Avast etc.
