Add "Sent" status to "Mark As" choices, and auto-assign that to sent emails

The Status categories for email messages should include a Sent choice, but doesn't. Please add that, and include a settings option to automatically assign that to all sent email messages.

I have many folders and subfolders by category, such as Family, Employment, Financial, Healthcare, Utilities, etc. Messages are moved from the Sent folder to the folder they are related to, as I do with received emails from the Inbox to their related folder, so that related emails are all together in one folder.

I used to use Eudora, which had a much simpler set of basic mailboxes: In, Out, Trash. You could tell by the status if a message was a draft or sent, both in the Out mailbox, Even when moved, an email message one-line summary in a mailbox had normal font for received emails, and italic font for sent emails, regardless of which mailbox the email message resided in.

As a side note, Thunderbird has three outgoing folders: Drafts, Sent, Outbox. Eudora just used one mailbox: Out for all of those functions, and their status made it clear what each message's status was. It wasn't determined by their mailbox.

That explains why the status of a message is what defines its status. It shouldn't matter which folder it is in.

I appreciate your trying to find a workaround to a feature that doesn't exist, but I would prefer an additional Sent status be added to the existing options in Thunderbird, as tagging can be used for a different, unrelated-to-Status, purpose.

While the new Sent status should also be added to Filters, that's not my primary goal in asking for this enhancement.

On Sent messages, the only way to presently mark a message so that it doesn't show up as causing a folder it is in to be Bold (containing an unread message), is to mark it as Read. That makes no sense for Sent messages. A Sent status makes it clear a message was sent.

Sometimes I create an email message that I don't intend to send (a draft), as a record for an event, such as filling out a Web form equivalent of an email. The only way to prevent such a message as being considered as unread, is to mark it as Read. Again, it wasn't a received message, so that doesn't make sense. A Draft (unsent) status would be appropriate for that type of message.

Enhancing Thunderbird to add a Sent and Draft status to the existing choices would provide the ideal solution.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know why my previous post isn't wrapping some paragraphs to the window width. Sorry about that.

Getting back to my enhancement request, the bottom line is that the only status choices are for incoming messages (Unread, Read, Replied). There needs to be equivalent status choices for outgoing messages (Sent, Draft).

In my opinion, this is an oversight of the design of the program, and should be easily fixed, by adding outgoing message status choices.

Thanks for your help in explaining the "line no-wrap" issue in this forum (I edited out the beginning space characters to fix that post), and locating the Bug 280606 that requests this same enhancement 14 years ago!

I expect adding the outgoing Draft and Sent status categories would be a relatively simple thing to implement, because all of the infrastructure to support it is already in place, but since it hasn't been done in 14 years, I would ask that be looked at again, and done now.
