I am getting this error message when trying to open all folders I have created.

Inbox, Sent, and Trash are all working.

I have tried to repair the folders and get the same error message I have tried starting Thunderbird with no extensions.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

The screenshot is not uploading, sorry Any suggestions

Chosen solution

"SELECT error...Folder does not exist or server encountered an error". That's a serverside problem. Please contact AOL directly.

..No Thunderbird does not find folders in Thunderbird safe mode ..AVG and Superantispyware ..AOL is email provider ..ATT U-Verse is internet provider ..The steps I took before this happened were that I compacted my folders by going to the top right under 'file', then to 'compact folders'. The error message is:

The current operation on "Family" did not succeed. The mail server for account ----@aol.com responded:[TRYCREATE] SELECT error...Folder does not exist or server encountered an error

I had this problem. I’ve resolved it by going into my AOL email account online and emptying the Trash folder (which was up to 1,560 items) in batches of 100 at a time. This seems to have been blocking the folder structure!

Thank you, watwinc. I found that deleting the folders in Webmail solved some of the problems. I could then delete them in Thunderbird and make new ones. That worked for a few days, then it went back to not 'seeing' the folders. I just emptied my webmail trash, as you said....had less than 100 in there .... and it's better again, so not sure if it is completely solved. I am just learning to live without the folders. It's a royal PITA

I have my suspicions about AOL folders currently - I’m not getting full recovery either, but I’ve still got a whole load of stuff to slim down. AOL Tech Support says it isn’t necessary to store messages offline, but I’m moving towards that as a solution to keeping my AOL mail lean.

I have no problem with AOL webmail folders, it's only Thunderbird. It's only the folders and subfolders I have created. The only way I can see what's in my folders is to go to AOL webmail.

Thunderbird downloads AOL webmail to my desktop. Thunderbird says it's an AOL issue, and AOL says it's a Thunderbird issue. I've had Thunderbird for over 7 years with no problems, it's just been the past month or so.

I had the same problem. Nothing I did would make it recognize the folders created under /inbox.

I finally created duplicate folders (slightly different name) and copied the content from the old folder to the new one using AOL's website email tool.

I could then subscribe to the new folders with Thunderbird and see the content, and delete the old ones using the AOL tool. This was a somewhat tedious process that also resulted in all my filters going away..
