Calendar for 52.9.1??

I have what I believe is the most current "stable" (not beta) version of Thunderbird, V. 52.9.1 .

All I want to know is if there is a Calendar add-on that works with this version. Every time I try to Google this, I get scores of hits about people who could not UPGRADE their EXISTING Calendar app when they updated to 52.9.1, people who have V.60 (which I assume is a beta version) and can't find a Calendar app, and people who have all kinds of problems that JUST MISS what I am looking to do.

Very simply, can I get a Calendar app (like the one in MS Outlook) that will work, hassle-free, with Thunderbird 52.9.1, or do I need to look elsewhere for something that will provide pop-up reminders for important events?

Lightning (the calendar) is bundled with Thunderbird for quite a while. So there is always a compatible version of Lightning to a given version of Thunderbird. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/thunderbird-calendar-integration

people who have V.60 (which I assume is a beta version)

You're wrong. TB60 is the latest release version. See https://www.thunderbird.net/

None of the versions I have seen state that they are compatible with 52.9.1. And when I choose "Download Anyway," I get a file that will not open on my Windows 7 computer. Is it that I need Windows 10?

Strangely, my version of Thunderbird says it is up-to-date.

You didn't get it. Lightning is bundled with Thunderbird. You don't need to download Lightning separately, and I have no idea why you're trying to do so.

Is it that I need Windows 10?

No.

my version of Thunderbird says it is up-to-date.

You'll need to download v60 manually. There is no auto-update. Read the v60 release notes. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.0/releasenotes/

"Thunderbird version 60.0 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net <https://www.thunderbird.net/> and not as upgrade from Thunderbird version 52 or earlier. A future version 60.1 will provide updates from earlier versions. If you have installed Lightning, Thunderbird's Calendar add-on, it will automatically be updated to match the new version of Thunderbird. Refer to this Calendar troubleshooting article <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird> in case of problems."

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that the installation file for 60.0 will not open on my computer. I can click it a hundred times and nothing happens.

So, assuming Lightning is included with every Thunderbird installation, where do I find it, and why are so many people saying they do not have it any longer after updating to 52.9.1?

Lightning is an add on and is supposed to be included with Thunderbird.

If yours is not go to the add on tab and click extensions. Enter lightning in the search box and install it.

Why are so many people making claims on the Internet? There is no shortage of people with little to no computer skills.

Yeah, I have tried downloading and installing the add-on several times. I guess I am not communicating well. When I do download it, I get an xpi file and a dialog box that asks if I want to Save it or Open it. I save it to a folder, then go to open it, and all I get is the same dialog box asking if I want to Save it or Open it. Round and round.

I get the feeling many of you are just trying to prove that I am inept or a bad listener. I really believe I have done everything possible to get this danged calendar and it just isn't working.

Does Mozilla itself offer any support?

Where did I say download the xpi file?

I said go to the add on tab, click Extensions and enter lightning in the search box.

If you DO download he xpi you do not open it you install it. Maybe this is why there are so many with problems on the Internet.

To install a downloaded file you again go to the add on tab in Thunderbird and click Extensions. Click the gear icon and select Install From File. Navigate to where you saved the file and follow the prompts. The problem with doing this is you have to know which Lighting version to download in the first place.

If you follow the instructions I gave you to use the search box on the Thunderbird add on page the correct version is found for you.

You are the one showing you have trouble following instructions. This is Thunderbird support. If you choose to use free software you can not expect a staffed help desk.

>>>Where did I say download the xpi file?<<<<

You didn't. That's the file I got when I did exactly what you said in your next condescending statement.

>>>I said go to the add on tab, click Extensions and enter lightning in the search box.<<<<

THEN, I opened the Extensions dialog box, as you instructed and got this message:

"Lightning is incompatible with Thunderbird 52.9.1." See attached screen capture if you still think I'm making all this sh-t up.

Thanks for suggesting that I go to the gear icon and select Install From File, because I would have just aborted otherwise.

I am glad you got Lighning installed. However I have locked this thread due to your apparent failure to understand that ad hominem attacks on volunteers will not be tolerated.

I have also edited your last posting to remove your unacceptable comments.
