Suddenly, on OSX 10.10, Thunderbird stopped showing a preview of attachments (Attach/select/Open)

Until this week, when I clicked on Attach, I would get a finder-like window from which to select the attachment. After selecting a file, Id click on Open and get a preview of the selected file (even for .pdf's and .doc's): a small image of the first page. That way, I could check that I selected the right file (very handy). After that, I could click on Select (or some such word) and the file would be attached to the email. I have not updated OSX or TB in the interim, but now, suddenly, I no longer get the preview--when I click on Open, the file just immediately gets attached. What caused the changed behavior and how can I revert to the previous behavior?

Chosen solution

It seems to me you have selected the 'List view' in the Open window, instead of 'Icon view' or Quick Look or Column view.
