AOL on my i-phone shut down yesterday, and I had to delete the app an reinstall it to restore AOL on my i-phone 6. Appearance is different on the i-phone but fully functional. Thunderbird on my Windows 10 desktop hourglasses now. I have not received any messages all day nor can I send messages in Thunderbird. Earlier today, I received the following Thunderbird error message: "Login to server imap.aol.com failed." I have resorted to logging on to AOL on my desktop where I have full functionality. Mozilla Thunderbird help is useless to me. I have tried using the help resources with no success. Using Mozilla is very frustrating. I am computer literate and have used desktop and application software for over 30 years. Please advise how to restore Thunderbird. I don't have any expectation that I will receive a reply to this message.

What is the error message you get? (verbatim please)

You are using AOL, did you get an update to Thunderbird on the device? Some products like Norton internet security which have firewall components routinely block new versions of Thundedrbird, resulting in all sorts of bizarre error messages because he internet is simply not there to the product.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
