My email doesn't show images. How do I alter my settings to allow this?

I use Thunderbird for email. Images do not show up - there's just a blank space where the image should be. If I go to my IP server, I can see the email with image as it was sent. What setting in Thunderbird allows the image to show up? Thanks!
