I tried to use the suggested fix slowness which then had me refresh but now I have no Firefox and many of my files are missing!
Since I used the "fix slowness" and the "Reset firefox" I have lost many files. When I try to open files in Adobe, in particular, they are "missing or deleted" How do I get them back? I can still see the title they just won't open! I did not get any link to my files as someone else suggested.

Hi Peach14, sorry to hear about your bad experience with the Refresh feature. A few things:
(1)
Do you see an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop? When Refresh runs normally, it moves your entire profile folder there. We can help you recover data from that folder. If Refresh is interrupted, you may not be able to start Firefox.

I didn't understand your comment about Opera. Is Firefox missing from your system, or is Firefox saying that your profile is missing or inaccessible? There is an article for that message:
How to run Firefox when your profile is missing or inaccessible

Are you using Firefox's download history to open the files? Usually downloaded files are stored in your Windows Downloads folder or elsewhere on your system, and not in your Firefox profile folder. So usually a Refresh has no effect on downloaded files. Strange...
If you are trying to open the files in some other way, could you describe in more detail what you're doing?
Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't been able to reply to you until now. To answer your questions: 1. Yes there is a folder on my desktop labeled Old Firefox Data. 2. After I did the refresh the Firefox shortcut was no longer working. I then used Opera so I could get on the Internet. When I tried to use the shortcut for Firefox the following (print screen) came up. 3. The adobe files I was trying to load are several weeks and/or months old. I believe most of them were downloaded from another site and converted to pdf during the download. They are stored in my directories/libraries I have opened these files prior to the problems I am having now. Any help you can give will be most appreciated. Thank you
It sounds like Firefox is likely still installed on your system, but the shortcut on your desktop is just not working. You need to find the location at which Firefox is installed and locate the firefox.exe
file.
If you don't know where Firefox is installed, you can find it by searching through your computer's files. In Windows, unless you manually specified what location you wanted Firefox to be installed in, Firefox will be installed in either other these locations:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
If you aren't able to find Firefox, you can safely reinstall it without losing your existing data. Simply download Firefox from the official Mozilla website and then install it. This should add a new working shortcut to your computer's desktop.
I did not find an exe file under Firefox. I did find the "old Firefox Data" shortcut on my desktop. The screen shot attached shows what is in it. How do I use those files to get the old data back? I am hesitant to download Firefox again until I get those files back. Can you tell me how to do it?.
I can assure you that it's 100% safe to install Firefox. Firefox does not touch the Firefox profile folders (which is what's on your desktop) at any time during the installation.
So for recovering your data, you can follow the steps in the Restore bookmarks, passwords, and data from an old Firefox profile to copy your old information to your current installation of Firefox.
NOTE: If you want to be extra safe, you can copy your Old Firefox Data folder to some form of external media (such as a USB or CD) before installing Firefox.
Did you already reinstalled Firefox?
You can find the full version of the current Firefox release (61.0.1) in all languages and all operating systems here:
