I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 but where has the bookmarks button gone?
This question has been asked before in a slightly different way, but the answers if there are any are accessible. Imused the book mark menu in the past but it has disappear with the new installation. If this doesn't work won't someone please say so and we can all go back to Ubuntu 16.04

There are 4 different bookmark menus or more and ways to bookmark. They are all in different locations and some have to be turned on .
Menu Bar mouse to top od browser and Right Click and turn Menu Bar on.
The star in the Address Bar plus several here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-firefox-controls-buttons-and-toolbars

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:
- click the bookshelf
icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button
drop-down list
- click Bookmarks
- click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar
See also "How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?":
You can find items like "Take a Screenshot" and the bookmarks star in the "Page actions" drop-down list (3-dot icon at the right end of the location/address bar). You can right-click an item in the "Page actions" drop-down list to add its button to the location/address bar for easy access.

The issue may not be due to using Ubuntu 18.04 or 16.0.4 but you may have been using the legacy Firefox 52 ESR on 160.4 and now using the current Firefox 60.0.2 Release or ESR
