Firefox suddenly closes when opening random links.

These can be as random as a google search for a popular movie, or opening a Reddit topic/page. It doesn't happen often, but when it happens it keeps on refusing to open the link and closes firefox again and again when trying. When opening firefox again, the tabs are usually waiting, and if not can be restored (with the exception of the page you are trying to reach.) A refresh did nothing, clean install did nothing, Hitman pro and various other virusscanners can't find anything. I have no clue whatsoever what is wrong, hopefully someone here can help me.

Let's make sure your system is clean.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

This seems to be the answer. Did the whole lot of them and the problem appears to be gone. That is to say; I first checked in safe mode with the last search query (the movie) that made Firefox close and it still did just that. So no add-on or whatever that was doing this to me.

After Malwarebytes found several items and removed them, it no longer closed. To be certain, I followed up with the rest. Hopefully this will be the end of it, but as said, it didn't happen often and I'm sure I'll only believe it's truly gone when a few weeks have passed.

Still, it's the first time since EVER I actually have a proper, paid for Antivirus programme, and this shit happens. I just don't get it...

Anyway, thanks a lot for your quick reply and the swify solution to my problem!
