Why can't I set images to open with Firefox Quantum?

Whenever I try to change the "Opens with: " option for image files to mozilla firefox (by selecting browse, navigating to the mozilla firefox folder, and clicking "firefox.exe" ) it acts as if I didn't select anything at all, preventing me from choosing it. I used to be able to do it with regular firefox (not quantum), but now I can't.

Hello,

The recommended programs for "choose/open with" does not have Firefox as an option, and the image file types are not listed under Options --> Application.

However, on researching this issue further I found a forum thread that had a method that worked for me, using something called Default Programs Editor.

While reading Mozilla's support articles I did find one here that says you shouldn't set Firefox to "always open" files, because it can repeatedly open empty tabs/windows. I haven't had that problem so far after using Default Programs Editor, but if I do I will mention it here for posterity.

Hi, using Firefox.exe is not going to get what you want ever.

Right click a image file and then choose/Open With Firefox and if have the option choose always use Firefox for this type of file.

Also in Options --> Application please see if your image file type is listed and change click it if it is and change what happens. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/applications-panel-set-how-firefox-handles-files

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
