Where are the cookies hiding? Older versions showed all cookies, but latest version hides most of them, even though they are definitely there

Even though it is quite apparent that many cookies have been set (e.g. until I sign in, I get an accurate count of how many "free" articles I have viewed on nytimes), the "show cookies" reveals only gmail. I cannot believe that all of a sudden nytimes, dailymail, wikipedia and many others have all of sudden stopped sending cookies. So where are they in the new version of firefox. I have asked this question on a Microsoft forum and have received no worthwhile replies, so I believe the cookies are being hidden by Firefox. So ---- where are they?

To view cookie details for the current site in Firefox 60, you have two options:

(A) Classic Cookies dialog (B) Storage Inspector tool

Classic Cookies Dialog for the Current Page

You can call this up using any of these methods:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can view/remove that site's cookies individually.

Storage Inspector for the Current Page

This is part of the Developer Tools panel. To call it up, either:

  • Shift+F9
  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Storage Inspector
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Storage Inspector

When I do this, the Cookies category is always expanded, but if yours shows a different category, you can click Cookies on the left side to list the cookies associated with the current page.

My first reply assumes you are browsing the site using a regular (non-private) window.

When you use a private window, the temporary cookies set in the private window are shown in the Storage Inspector but NOT in the classic Cookies dialog.

Thanks, jscher2000 ----- Of the possibilities you listed, only one of them actually works. It is the suggestion "Storage Inspector for the Current Page", using the "Developer Tools panel". Thank you very much for your quick and accurate reply.

It's a shame that Firefox has has made it so difficult to access information which used to be so easily found.

jscher2000 ------ now I see why the other options did not work ----- I was set to be always in "private" browsing mode. Thanks for the explanation.
