Is there a limit of 150 on the number of addesses in a List in Address book?
It seems that I cannot have more than 150 addresses in a List of contacts. Is this true? Are there any other limits of which I should be aware.
Chosen solution
Some users have reported using Mailing Lists with more than a thousand member contacts, so based on this I'd say there's no intentional limit.
Mailing Lists seem to be one of the more fragile elements of Thunderbird. An inability to add contacts to an existing List can usually be worked around by creating a new Mailing List and copying the contents of the old to the new. Of course, this isn't a fix, as such, but I don't think anyone has been able to identify any set of steps by which to reproduce on demand the failure of a Mailing List.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Limits_%28Thunderbird%29 There appears to be a limit of approximately 60 addresses when sending messages if you enter each address separately. However, if you use lists (mail distribution lists) for most of the addresses any limit is imposed by whatever SMTP server you use.
There is no limit on contacts in an 'address book'. Another well repected helper on the forum mentions: Thunderbird has a quirky limit based, it seems, on the number of characters used for the accumulated addresses. This resolves to "about 60" addressees. But this may be based on the use of sending individual emails rather than as a 'Mailing List'.
'Lists' are designed to be used in a group email, so it is expected that all contacts in a 'List' must have an email address. There are two ways of sending a 'List'. One allows each email address to be inserted separately, the other adds as a Mailing List name and you do not see individual email addresses. More info:
The server you use to send emails may impose a limit. Although it may be one email address with eg: 60 email addresses in the TO or Cc field, the server will count this as 60 emails.
Additional info: A Mailing List can be made more 'personal' by using 'Mail Merge ' addon with a designated address book rather than a 'Mailing list'.
My problem is not to do with SENDING the e-mails, it is to do with Thunderbird. I was trying to add another 'person' to the list, but found that I couldn't, noting that there were 150 entries in the List. I deleted one that wasn't actually needed anymore, taking the total down to 149. I was then able to add the 'new' entry. I then tried to add another, and found that I couldn't, suggesting that there is a limit of 150 entries in a List IN Thunderbird. I can't find any Mozilla document that identifies such a limit.

Please note: If you are trying to add a contact from address book and that contact does not have an email address then it will not get added. If you are trying to add a contact who shares the same email address as someone else who is already added then it will not get added and you would have to use the work around method as stated at the Mailing List info link.
