Oh, sorry yes it would ignore the <applet> as Java is no longer supported in Firefox or any main browsers. As a applet needs jave to run.

Firefox does support java script.

There are sites that can convert you applet into a gif.

Applet support has been removed from Firefox since Firefox 53.
