I want to delete firefox and run thunderbird on google chrome only
I used to love the firefox browser, now I can't stand to use it. It is always slow, needs constant attention to malware problems and I am sick of babysitting it! I want rid of it, by deleting the firefox browser, and run thunderbird mail on google chrome only. I want to be able to switch to chrome and keep everything intact. All my mail, and contacts imported to chrome, and firefox gone from my life forever! It is a nightmare for me!

re :I used to love the firefox browser, now I can't stand to use it. It is always slow, ....etc Had issues myself and it was driving me nuts. Then I discovered it was running two firefix.exe processes in the 'Task Manager' window. If you see this as well then read info at this link. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1148125 I followed instructions and Firefox is now sooo much better.
re :and run thunderbird mail on google chrome only. I want to be able to switch to chrome and keep everything intact. All my mail, and contacts imported to chrome,
Sorry, but this part does not make any sense. It is rather confused and you do not appear to understand the difference between Thunderbird email client and Firefox browser.
'Thunderbird' is an email client program which you downloaded and runs on your computer. Thunderbird accesses the various servers for different mail accounts (email addresses) to faciltate viewing and sending emails.
Thunderbird has nothing to do with any browser; they are two entirely different programs doing entirely different things.
A browser offers access to internet webpages. As far as emails are concerned, in a browser you can use your ISP website or your hosted domain website or google account to access the specific webmail accounts.
Let me try to explain. Every email I get thru Thunderbird does NOT OPEN in chrome! I want every email to OPEN in CHROME..nothing but CHROME. That is NOT what happens! So, apparently this is not happening to you?
I have tried to uncheck everything I can in FIREFOX to remove it as my DEFAULT browser, but...IT will NOT GO AWAY!
I want to know how to run thunderbird in CHROME ONLY?? It is opening in Firefox! If I delete FIREFOX, will it deliver my mail automatically in CHROME????? How do I make that happen for sure???
I originally used FIREFOX when I installed Thunderbird, and now it wants to continue to use FIREFOX FORMAT!
Now, my concern is that Thunderbird will NOT FIND Chrome and open my emails in Chrome, because it will still be looking for FIREFOX.

You're not making sense. Thunderbird is an email client. Chrome and Firefox are browsers. There is no reason for email messages read in an email client to open in a browser.
Maybe you mean that you get links in email messages that need to be opened in a browser, and they are opening in the "wrong" browser? If so, confirm, and someone can help you on your way with setting up the default browser.
Or maybe you mistakenly think that Thunderbird is an email service. It isn't; it is a client (a local program on your computer) that co-operates with mail providers' servers (remote computers) . There is no such thing as a "Thunderbird account" and there is no Mozilla or Thunderbird server handling your email messages.
Otherwise, you'll need to try harder to explain what your problem is.
You do not "run" an email client like Thunderbird in any Internet browser. It is an independent program and it needs nothing else to run. If you are trying to say you want links you receive by email to open in Chrome you need to set Chrome as your default browser. Thunderbird uses your default Internet browser. That is a function of your operating system and has nothing to do with Thundernird.
re :Every email I get thru Thunderbird does NOT OPEN in chrome! I want every email to OPEN in CHROME..nothing but CHROME. That is NOT what happens! So, apparently this is not happening to you?
Let's be very clear. Emails downloaded to mail account in Thunderbird are displayed in a list. When you select - left click - on an email in the list, it opens in the lower Message Pane or a double click will open email in a new tab or window depending upon settings. They do not open in a browser.
However, some emails which you download to Thunderbird and open and read in Thunderbird, may have a link in the email content. This link might say you can view the email in a browser or the link might open on a specific webpage in a browser.
So perhaps you are talking about links and selecting the browser in which they open.
You need to set 'Chrome' as the default browser on your computer.
Please confirm you have these settings: Close all browsers.
Control Panel > Default Programs Select: 'Set Program access and computer defaults'
click on the 'Custom' downward pointing arrows under 'choose a default web browser' Select: Google Chrome - Select: 'Enable access to this program' do not select any other browsers. make sure only Google chrome has the 'enable access to this program'. All others should be unchecked. click on OK
Confirm this is set as described.
Check: Control Panel > Default Programs Select: 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program'
In my case I'm using Firefox and I have all the following set to use Firefox, so in your case check to see if all of these are set to use Chrome.
- .htm
- .html
- .shtml
- .xht
- .xhtml
- .xml
scroll down to 'Protocols'
- FTP
- HTTP
- HTTPS
Please confirm what you have here and whether you changed anything and if you made changes, did it have any effect.
Note: When you download and install chrome : If it asks can it run in the background - select no.
CHROME is set as my default browser!!!! So, then as to my first question, I CAN DELETE FIREFOX (browser) and all my emails will automatically open into MY DEFAULT BROWSER GOOGLE CHROME? It is NOT working like you describe! So, malware, or whatever, I can delete FIREFOX. Then MY EMAIL PROGRAM, THUNDERBIRD....will not lose any functionality??? and thanks everyone for the techeee goblity gook tirade!
If everyone is here to just freaking look for the correct terms and what not, please, it is not helping!
Even linking here, opens Firefox, not Chrome! I have chrome set as default. Firefox is like the thing that won't leave!!!
Setting google chrome as the default, does not stop firefox from opening anyway! Just for everyones info...So, that is what I want rid of, and the only way I know of is to delete this intrusive firefox garbage...and hope thunderbird won't try to find firefox.
Nobody answered the original question for me...just a education sequence of nothing. Yes folks, I know thunderbird is a mail system, but an email that auto opens links uses the defaut browser, NOT working like that! Firefox is opening anyway!!
I can't even use google as my default search engine...in firefox..it won't go away....I shouldn't have to install app and extensions to get normal functioning features.
Chrome is actually easier to use now, and you can actuall call support on the Phone if you need an answer. not go thru this forum humiliation
re : but an email that auto opens links uses the defaut browser good to know you acknowledge that you are talking about links that open a default browser and not emails. It is helpful when everyone understands how things work.
Did you check all the different sections to do with default mail account that I provided? Did you uninstall Chrome and reinstall making sure you do not select the option to run in background?
What OS do you use? assuming Win10..
After installing: Did you follow these steps: Windows 10
- On your computer, click the Start menu
- Click Settings
- Open your default apps:
- Original version: Click System and then Default apps.
- Creators Update: Click Apps and then Default apps.
- At the bottom, under "Web browser," click your current browser (typically Microsoft Edge).
- In the "Choose an app" window, click Google Chrome.
In Thunderbird:
Menu icon > Options > Options > Attachments > Incoming tab
If you see a 'Content Type' that mentions html or htm, what 'Action' is it using ?
Does it say 'Use Firefox'?
click on that drop down to select 'Use Google Chrome'
OR select 'Delete' to remove completely
click on OK
I guess I was not clear, Thunderbird does not need an Internet browser to work. Not Firefox, not Internet Explorer and not Chrome. Feel free to delete any or all Browsers on your system. Then Google how to set default application for what ever operating system you have and Thunderbird will open link with that. If you actually had Chrome set as the default Thunderbird would use it.
And maybe do not get snooty with people just trying to figure out what you are asking.

Delete firefox
Install chome.
End of story
Thank you, that is the help I was expecting! or something like just delete firefox, it won't hurt a thing.
