Greetings, How can I disable Highlights.

All the solutions out there only hide it, leaving it on the background running. so anyone who can click on it can view the Highligts back as fresh as it can be.

I like Highlights, however Firefox does not understand me when I ask it to delete a site multiple times, it stills show it up as soon as I visit the site.

When I visit a supplier or a wholesale website, those sites pop into the Highlights section, I delete it , remove it from history than when I visit the site again it show in that main section. I have customers who sits down with me and I don't want them to see those sites I finish, which forces me to use another browser (Trouble some) or (Hide Highlights) which comes up with any update.

Is there a way to stop Highlights from collecting data not just hiding it self, or is there a way to stop it from displaying a specific site once and for all.

Or is it forced upon us.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, on the New Tap Page : Click on the cog gear wheel in the upper right corner, and then uncheck 'Highlights'.

As long as it is a Firefox issue. As there is adware that can do the same thing. Please use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech :

Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help :

Post in only 1 forum, then wait.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

The top sites and highlight sections shows pages that you have visited. You can consider to use a New Private Window to visit website that you do not want to show up in the history.

I am not talking about history, but rather displaying your history in the open, specially if the computer you use is a computer that you will be using along side customers.

Let say you are a resale who has sites for suppliers (in history and bookmarks) And than a customer is setting next to you to place an order, and when you open Firefox all your supplier sites are naked in the open in front of the customer.

Using a private window is not practice for sites you always use. Using another browser is also not practical and give extra work.

Is there a way to hide some sites from the default Firefox window.

Or is it forced upon us that ALL sites be displayed in every new tabs even the ones with sensitive phase toward the customers sitting next to you.

It would nice If I could disable it (not just hide it) or be able to omit some site from being listed there.

There is a Dismiss item in the three dot drop-down menu that you can use to remove a tile. The three dots appear when you hover a tile. Note that these sites are stored in a pref that you can inspect on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites that you have pinned to a tile.
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites that you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile.

Maybe use an extension to set the new tab page to a blank page. You can set the home page yourself, but you need an extension for the new tab page.

The Dismiss Item is useless, the tile will come back as soon as you visit the site.

The browser.newtabpage.blocked which stores tiles that you click X on does not work in the Highlights section.

Having an extension that shows a blank page does not disable the Highlights feature, it is still working in the background.

For now I think there is no way in Firefox to stop Firefox from displaying the sites you visited in the highlight section or to remove a site from being highlighted, the only thing you could do is hide it (minimize it and leave it running).

Googling "disable Firefox highlights" return around half a million result.

Hopefully in the future Firefox will give us more control on what we can display in the main page from our personal and business content. Until than we will just have to wait.
