Anyone know when the Thunderbird Twitter client will allow 280 character tweets?

Thunderbird has supported Twitter for some time https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/instant-messaging-and-chat but hasn't been updated to allow 280 character tweets.

Does anyone know if this is planned?

Or is there a setting that I can adjust in the Config Editor to allow 280 character tweets?
