"Forget About This Site" does NOT work!!
I have followed the instructions on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remove-websites-awesome-bar-suggestions
but it does not work. The same site I just removed keeps popping up in the suggestions. It's annoying because I want to quickly access *another* website which starts with the same first 6 characters. Previously, I only had to type 2 or 3 characters. How can I get this out of the browser history??? Please help!

WestEnd, FredMcD - thank you. I have found the problem.
Normally, I would do as you suggest, Fred, and I *did* but it had no effect. The problem was - and I'm embarrassed to say it - was that I had a bookmark of the page. Firefox was searching bookmarks as well. Silly me did not notice. So... I deleted the bookmark, and the "Forget about this site" worked fine.
Sorry for the beginner miss! Thank you both!

Did you clear the cookies and history and or cache so it stops? Sounds like once you go there it saves the cache of it so it keeps popping back up. And if the site matches the typing it will come up regardless. If you don't want that site to come up save the site you want and go directly to it instead.
WestEnd, thanks for the reply.
UPDATE: It worked for ONE site, but not for the one I was referring to. Just an hour ago, I wanted to access a local Craigstlist and accidentally typed .COM instead of .ORG. Ooops! Don't want that coming up, so let's remove it. "Forget about this site" worked great! What about the other place? Nope! Still get http://maps.gsi.go.jp/ when I type "maps.g..." instead of getting maps.google.com like I want.
I did clear my ENTIRE history and that's annoying because I have to re-sign in everywhere, but the darn http://maps.gsi.go.jp/ website keeps coming up. Frustrating because I use Google Maps all the time.
Type some letters and STOP ! ! Using your arrow keys, highlight the unwanted entry and press Delete. Repeat as needed.
Then press Delete (Mac=Shift Delete).

As long as the problem is solved.
