Hello

All my folders with their names and email lists have suddenly reverted to really small font (I can still control font size in emails)

I think I managed this aspect with the theme font and size changer add-on in the past which is still installed but no longer visible in the tool bar.

As others on their website state, this add-on suddenly stopped working for them and became invisible. I've tried ta reinstall but that hasn't worked

The problem now is that the font is so bloody small that I can barely read it.

I just wish Mozilla would work a bit better with add-ons. We really need some of them but they seem to become redundant with every new update. It's really frustrating at the best of times but this is a disaster for me! I need to see emails for my work.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Are you a Mac user?

I have been advocating an alternative method (css files) for setting fonts sizes in the menus and lists, but one mac user has posted that even this method has stopped working.

What has changed recently? Have you just upgraded Thunderbird?

I'm wondering if some OS patch has been rolled out (Meltdown? Spectre?) that has had this unwelcome side effect.

Hello Zenos

I'm on Windows 7 and Thunderbird updates automatically but not Windows 7. I see that others are reporting the same and similar problems this week.

Really disappointing with Thunderbird. If they can't integrate basic features and leave it all to add-ons, then the least they should do is to assist add-ons and not screw them up with every new release.

I was looking at this. I see a new add-on from the theme and font size changer author that appears in the list of add-ons as Theme and font size changer for Thunderbird 62.0 link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer-for-tb/

The general Theme and font size changer which does not include the "For Thunderbird" part can be found here. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/

So my question is, is the problem with the for Thunderbird add-on or the original one which is apparently now Firefox only.

I am wondering if the "Firefox" version is what has expired and folk been to remove it and install the "Thunderbird" version.

Hello Matt

I've got a bit confused but I don't think anyone can blame me. The link that you say is for Firefox only currently actually says in the title "...for TB" but it isn't available for my platform (banner in red) so I never installed it.

I've already tried the other links that people gave me including you and once Thunderbird refused to install it as untrusted so I read all the instructions for configuring TB not to do this, changed my preference settings in TB to let it install untrusted software and got exactly the same results (an install that is then invisible)

As I said before, I see that others have suffered the same fate with this add-on which suddenly refuses to work and goes invisible and in view of the horribly small standard font size for folders and bars (and my age), it's pretty much a reason for ditching TB and trying another email client. But what a waste of time after having set up TB in IMAP mode and having installed so many add-ons to help me. Why does TB do this with its continual updates that screw up add-ons that we desperately need?

Thanks

The way the javascript the add-on written in is compiled has been changed by Mozilla. The change needed is minor, but necessary for the ongoing security of the program. The Author of the add-on knows this change will probably break the add-on and has only marked it to work up to version 45.

What you need to do to make the version you have work is outlined in this message https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1198299#answer-1060415

My font changer has disappeared too, earlier updates have had this effect but it always mysteriously reappeared again. This time it seems to have disappeared for good. Surely someone can come up with a simple way of making the add on work again or make the add on work with the latest version 52.5.2

The now small font on the home page is just not acceptable so it would be great if Mozilla gave it some thought and came up with a fix.

I'm having the problem with Thunderbird 52.5.2 and version 62 of the font size changer add on on my iMac.

The fonts on the sidebar are so tiny I have get my nose about 3 inches away form the monitor to read them.

This is in reply to Zenos, who asked me what downloads I was using (re Font Size Changer)

1] I had the add-on working fine for months/a year? (I cannot recall when I first installed it). All of a sudden--about a week ago--my T-Bird screen reverted to microscopic fonts, very hard to read.

2] I have tried Versions 62.0 and 56.0 from "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/theme-font-size-changer/versions/". I installed it and it shows up in the Extensions page of T-Bird. However, there is no relevant button shown in "Customize" in T-Bird, I cannot find an "install" button on the Extensions page. I have seen several postings on the Internet of others who have had this same add-on suddenly fail to function as well as difficulty in attempting to recover its functions.

I need help!

Thank you.

Stephen Bonrepos

Can someone come up with a fix for me as well, I am running Windows 7 on my PC. Fingers crossed.

Cheers

Thanks Zenos,

I thought it was a Mac fix only so will give it a go. Probably a bit complicated for me but will let my tech man have the link and see what comes of it.

I must say that the loss of this add on is a real downer for me after several years of Thunderbird use.

Hello Same here and with a star in the menu but it I think it's a Mozilla add on as it doesn't look the same as before. It's interesting to see just how hard it is for programmers to understand users as the interface of the add on has tiny font (aaargh) but hopefully, this will be improved over time. At least it's a step in the right direction but what a palaver. Once again, if Mozilla cannot provide basic features, then stop screwing up add ons that do with every new version

You do know the add-on stopped working because the guy that wrote it put in a time bomb that stopped it on the 5th January don't you?

The extension author posted a version 64.1 update on A.M.O on January 11 for Thunderbird and SeaMonkey. Mozilla has no involvement in making or maintaining this third-party extension.

The vast majority of extensions being hosted at addons.mozilla.org are made by a third-party author or company. The author put in a datebomb or timebomb for previous version for it to stop working on January 5th, which is unusual for a extension author to do. Mozilla is not to blame.

Most of the extensions Mozilla has at A.M.O are by this account https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/mozilla/

Note Thunderbird is not really a Mozilla product anymore so they would not have done any changes in Thunderbird. Besides the last Thunderbird 52.5.2 update was December 22, 2017 and this extension stopped working on January 5th.

Hello CharlieFarley and all

if it was due to a time bomb and not TB on this occasion, then my apologies this time round for blaming Mozilla/TB But i'd stick to my guns on the rest. My Mozilla add on list is full of legacy add ons that no longer work. Basic features should be packaged and valuable add-ons should not stop working cos of continual updates. The updates are then seen to do more harm than good. Where did the "new" add on come from? Was it from Thunderbird then or the original software that has had the time bomb removed by Thunderbird?

Regards to all SafeTex

I have done nothing about downloading the latest version 64.1 and just enjoying the magical reappearance of the font changer in Thunderbird.

Should I consider downloading the latest version or stick with what I have in front of me which works just fine.

Any thoughts?
