Internet speed issue with Firefox

Hi,

since a few days firefox runs really slow and occasionally gets even slower for extended periods of time. For example usually I could watch Youtube in 720p and now the maximum I get 480p. Then sometimes it even drops to 144p or stops completely for like 10 minutes before it goes up to 480p again. During this time loading websites and pictures also takes very long.

If I'm using Chrome everything works perfect. I can still watch videos in 720p and it never slows down. Also my download rate with e.g. Steam is still the same as always, so it's definitely Firefox related.

I tried to use safe mode, I reinstalled and reset Firefox and removed all addons, but even with a new install I still have the same issue. I have no idea what else I could do. Could you please help me with this issue?

go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Monitor in Task Manager. Should stay below 2 gigs. If excessive then do below and monitor and change if need to...Test and go up again , go back down, it will eventually get a zone you and it can live with.

Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks for your input.

Preventing Accessibility Services from accessing my browser did not help.

I tried different settings with the multiprocessor and 3 seems to work best (it was at 4 before). It improved it a little bit, but videos are still buffering every few seconds.

I was monitoring the task manager while having a video open and CPU is at 0.1%-0.2% and RAM at 160-180 MB. Are those number normal?

I did another double check with Chrome and was playing the same video and the buffer-indicator is way ahead of the play-indicator.

Is there anything more I can do? I don't recall changing anything in Firefox or my system. I've been using the browser since years and never had any problems.

Edit: I tested it now with a work laptop and its working fine as well (using Firefox in my home network)

If you use Adblock Plus then you can consider uBlock Origin as a replacement to see if that works better (lower memory footprint).

Well as I said, I already tried removing all addons and safe mode, so I really don't think it's adblock.
