Setting up mail, I'm getting "Username or Password invalid"

Though my computer is working with no problems, I wanted to test my recovery procedures. I therefore renamed profiles.ini in the Thunderbird folder so that the Thunderbird program would assume that I was starting afresh. Trying to recreate my account, I got as far as "Mail account setup" but then was told that the "Configuration could not be verified — is the username or password wrong?" The password I used, zHg7MDWeQOn2, works fine in giving me access to AOL Mail at https://mail.aol.com/webmail-std/en-us/suite (AOL is handling the verizon.net domain) but is rejected when trying to set up Thunderbird. I assume that I would have the same problem in real life if and when my computer (now over 6 years old) dies.

Advice is welcome.

Are you sure the username shouldn't be the full email address?

From Peter B: I did have the password wrong. Sorry to trouble you!

Doesn't help. I didn't fill in username; it was preloaded, probably from AOL's records based on the email address that I provided on a previous screen. Per Zenos' suggestion, I did try changing it to my email address, but I got the same error.

Though I'm sure of the password, I could try changing it at AOL's website.

I did debate whether to start with Mozilla or AOL support, and decided to try Mozilla first. Is this clearly an AOL problem?
