Where can I find my address book files so I can import to another location?

I keep my Ubuntu OS hard discs in separate removable carriers. I have several of them and only plug in and use one at a time. This enables me to upgrade to a newer version while still having a previous working version on a separate removable hard disc which contains all my old files, e-mails, etc. etc. etc. (and believe me I have been damned glad to have this facility on several occasions!) Once a new version of Ubuntu is up and running, I have no problem switching most of the files I still need to the new disc (double copying via a large inbuilt hard disc). My problem arises from the fact that over several years I have developed several large e-mail address books. I see that it is possible to import these to the new version, but I need to know;- a) the file format I am looking for - LDIF, .tab, .csv, .txt or .vxf ????????? b) the location so that I can start to copy them (via the import button?) c) any information I may be missing to get a result.

Chosen solution

Look for files with a mab extension in your profile.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data

You can freely copy-and-paste the two built-in address books between profiles.

Personal Address Book = abook.mab Collected Addresses = history.mab

User defined address books may need to be imported, using the More Functions For Address Book add-on.

An alternative approach might be to export and import, using the LDIF file format.
