Get a red flashing screen alerting me (haha) to my computer being taken over and to call an 888, says authentication required. How do I get rid of this?

Can't pin down when it pops up...sometimes in my e mail; sometimes when I log in; sometimes when i read online newspaper. Checked it out on Google; it led me to believe the problem may be with Firefox and Firefox update with the tiles of last visited site seemed to be the catalyst (or maybe the ever annoying Windows updates). I am running Windows 10.

Hi  !

When you get a scam page that shows that two-line 'Authentication Required' dialog, and you cancel it, usually the page will reload and show it again. To break the cycle, tap the Esc key several times in a row quickly. That should cancel the dialog as well as the reload. Then you can easily close the tab.

To prevent this from happening again, you could consider installing
uBlock Origin  :

Hi,

Thank you for quick response. I haven't had the evil red screen since I sent my question. But I've kept your response in my "tool kit" for when it returns, so yes, it's very helpful to know there's a way to blast it off my computer.
