I just received a notice of update available, clicked download now, but nothig happened. Was it real?
A notice appeared soon after opening Firefox. Never had a problem in the past, but this one didn't do anything, the pop-up just disappeared. Any chance this was fake and I downloaded malware?
Chosen solution
I found the version under Firefox Health Report. It is 57.0.1. Thanks for the help. The pop-up advising of a download did not resemble the examples of fake ones either.

Thanks for reporting a fake update. Please see the article I found a fake Firefox update.
The current Firefox version is 57.0.1 which was released on November 29th 2017.
How to update:
Click on the 3 line menu >> (?) Help >> About Firefox. It should start updating automatically, click Restart Firefox when prompted to finish updating.

Modified
I need to know whether the notice was real. I clicked learn more and it did mention the Nov 29 date. When I clicked Update, nothing seemed to happen.
Click on the 3 line menu >> Click on (?) Help >> About Firefox. If version is 57.0.1 then yes it was real and you are up to date.

There was no About Firefox selection under the (?)Help se;ection.
Go to about:support, what Version is listed under Application Basics on that page?
