Firefox crashes

A box came up asking me to update Firefox. I did so. Immediately afterward my computer began freezing, and even when unfrozen would work very slowly. After about 15 minutes it completely froze. Would not switch to any other sites or programs. only my windows commands would come up when clicking in bottom left corner, but it would not execute any of the commands, not even to log out or shut down. Finally had to do hard shutdown by holding the power button. On reboot computer would hang, I had to do three hard shutdowns before I got windows to load. Then the computer seemed OK until I opened Firefox, then HANG!!! After another hard shutdown, on restart I elected to go straight to recovery and roll back to a restore point several weeks old. This of course required a couple hours of bringing programs up to date. I am now still being to update Firefox, I do not wish to destroy my computer again, how can I get Firefox to stop presenting the request for upgrading? PS In the short time the "new" Firefox was usable, I did not like several things about it, most significantly was the way bookmarks and history was presented, I could not find any of the bookmarks i wanted. This the best way to uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 is no longer safe to use for every day use do to secuity issues, but 52.5.0 ESR is! It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Didn't Work. had to resort previous restore point. However for the while things were up this time I found I didn't like the new edition, especially the way it accesses bookmarks. I use both AVG ultimate, and VPN will these keep me safe if I can't upgrade?
Please mark this as solved then, answer is your self

Instead of an attempt to help, this is an insult! Pkshadow, should be banned if this is his attempt to interact with users needing help. I have enjoyed using Firefox for years and enjoyed it; and it is a way to get away from the ubiquitous M.S. products. I do not enjoy negative accusatory comments from those I ask for help.

Continue like that and I can see issues.
So previous to the below was the story of the issue/s and what you did. Nothing to answer here.

Where may I find the questions asking for support and on what issues did you list that you wanted to cover in your request ?
What I read is you had issues, I provided a possible way even though you said you do not like several things about it. If came back asking for more help, more would have been supplied that.
Instead you again said did not like itDidn't Work. had to resort previous restore point. However for the while things were up this time I found I didn't like the new edition, especially the way it accesses bookmarks.
So information was provided about not updating as you mentioned
I use both AVG ultimate, and VPN will these keep me safe if I can't upgrade?so info was given about not updating as already outlined twice.
Only thing that was missed and sorry about that was : Yes you will be safe with AVG and VPN.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
So if you would like further help exploring issues would be glad to help you knowing that you are interested in making it work as was intended.
So yes have other solutions that can be looked at if you are expressing a desire to do that.
