What is Movemail?

On the Thunderbird Startup page (Linux), in the Accounts panel there is an option to create a Movemail account. I clicked this but the wizard doesn't give any information about what a Movemail account is. I've done some web searching and I can't find a clear explanation of what it is, other than to maybe read mbox files, but the wizards suggests it is more than that.

Can someone give me a brief explanation of what a Movemail account is and what you use it for.

I am also presuming it is noting to do with movemail.com.
