Search messages should support search of attachment file names

Search messages is very powerful, but it doesn't allow me to search the meaningful file names which I apply to attachments to my outgoing emails. I want to know if I have previously sent a particular file (or group of files) to one or more of my correspondents - mainly to avoid being repetitive.

I imagine this requires new code in Search messages, and although I had 35 yrs as a software developer, I'm not up to this task.

Try the ATTACHMENT SEARCH TAB add-on, available in the 'Extensions for Thunderbird' section here:

Thanks very much, this works fine, but now I realise that some of the files I'm interested in tracking were "inserted" into the html email messages, not attached - these don't get found by the ATTACHMENT SEARCH TAB add-on.

When I examine such a msg it is apparent that thunderbird stores the original file name of the inserted image - shows as default if I rightclick the picture and choose "save image as ...".

So, is there a tool which can search the names of images embedded in thunderbird messages?

I'm not aware of any way to search a folder for embedded images, but an individual message's source (Ctrl+U) can be searched for image names from Edit/Find.
