Two APPCRASH on exit. V56.0 64-bit, Win 7. Exception codes c0000005 and c000041d.

Firefox Version: 56.0 (64-bit) OS: Windows 7 Pro, with current Windows Updates


I get two "Firefox has stopped working" error dialog boxes when exiting Firefox. This problem has been occurring for about the past month or so, and I believe it's been happening since a few previous Firefox updates. (Current date is 2017-10-06) I'm hoping someone with knowledge of Firefox internals might be able to provide some pointers to a solution based on the info from the APPCRASH data.

The Problem Details content from the error dialogs is shown below.

- Restarting in Safe Mode did not resolve the problem.

- I also removed and re-installed Firefox and then refreshed it and get the same problem.

- Possibly related: Before I re-installed Firefox, the LastPass icon disappeared from my toolbar even though LastPass was installed and showed up on the Add-ons list. I also lost all LastPass functionality. Re-moving and re-installing LastPass did not resolve this issue, and that is the reason I re-installed Firefox. LastPass is on the toolbar and working normally now after the Firefox re-installation.

Hi smorele, Sorry, the last crash report I have listed is from 2017-02-16, which is from way before I started seeing the issue in this thread. But the ID is: d8917014-b68f-473a-9dec-0fcad0171006

I had the option to send crash reports to mozilla turned off. I just turned it on and re-created the problem, but no new crash reports appeared. I have a feeling the problem happening too late in the Firefox exit process for the crash data to be captured. I get the first error dialog about 3 seconds after the Firefox window closes (lightly loaded i7 CPU).

Yes, I have both the LastPass Firefox add-on and the LastPass for Applications desktop program installed. Turns out this problem seems to be related to the desktop program (which is nicknamed LastApp).

I uninstalled LastApp and the Firefox crash on exit problem went away. Re-installed LastApp and the problem came back.

Your pointer prompted me to notice that the APPCRASH info contains ... Fault Module Name: lastapphook_x64.dll

So this definitely looks like a LastApp bug, unless Firefox is guilty of exiting improperly or not setting up some sort of context data or something like that. I think LastApp is the more likely suspect though; they could at least provide more graceful error handling and a proper error message.
