Hi, I just made a subfolder and as I was going to paste the text, the space wasn't clickable; it didn't let me do it. May I know how to put ttext or whatever into my new subfolder? Thank you.

What is WLM?

You cannot type into a folder.

Period.

Not in Windows or in Mac OS. Or in Linux. In any of the above systems, you can enter text into a file and move or copy that file to a folder. BUT Firefox is not an operating system - it is there to manage your email.

In Thunderbird, all you can place in a folder is another folder or an email.

You can create a new email message, and go to File > Save As > Drafts, which will place that message in your Drafts folder. You can then click on and drag that message to the new folder you created.

Right-click the folder, Rename?

Thanks, but now I have a folder with a new name and with the same problem. Just how do you paste or write on a subfolder?  :)

You copy or move messages to a folder by drag-and-drop from another TB folder, or right-click messages in the source folder and select Move To or Copy To. Or, drag eml files from a File Explorer folder and drop them on a TB folder.

What if it's from another email program? And why it doesn't let me type???

The import didn't copy ALL my folders from my old program, so I had to choose the more important ones and copy/paste them on the subfolder. And I also needed to type...

Subfolders contain files or maybe more subfolders. We don't usually type into them, except when creating new files or subfolders. Tell us why you think you need to type into it. Often if you can't find how to do something, it's because that something is impossible, or, at least, impractical.

Well, that's the generality. In Thunderbird specifically, we store messages and subfolders in our folders. So typing text in really doesn't make any sense.

Maybe this is a matter of semantics, I don't know but I thought a subfolder is a folder made in addition to all (system and other) folders. But whether it is or isn't, I think one should be able to make subfolders AND paste text or graphics and/or type, on it! Why this doesn't make sense in your mind...is a puzzle to me.

"Tell us why you think you need to type into it."

If you need to know, there are 2 folders that haven't been imported though I carefully searched several times, I even read the imported folder titles one by one on ALL my accounts, and these 2 weren't anywhere!

I need to copy these 2 into my TB account BEFORE I uninstall WLM! I want them to be in a separate folder, not bunched up in the Draft or some other folder. Also, I have to keep making entries on these subfolders, hence the typing. I still don't know where you find lack of sense...

I did manage to copy them into the regular Draft folder until I solve the situation, so I would be ready NOW to uninstall WLM except...

...another reason I haven't yet done it is that my main TB account (the one you send to) stopped receiving after the 2nd day I installed TB. I could answer so far because I got them in my old WLM as I kept the same addresses. I suspect it's because I'm keeping 2 email programs on one computer? (though my other accounts work fine), so I'm eager to complete the import (as explained above) and uninstall WLM to see if this was the culprit.

If you or anyone here have a suggestion as to why and how to fix my account not receiving messages since I installed TB, please do let me know right away? I went through my account's settings and they are exactly the same as my other accounts which work correctly. A friend of mine also went over the settings for me and didn't find anything wrong. Mystery?

So I'm waiting to delete WLM until I hear from you/others on how to fix my account. I went to my profile to see if I gave a 2nd address, but there was none and no option to enter one, so...ok if I give here the address of another account which I don't yet use much? I know the risks, but I'd be able to communicate after I killed WLM. Let me know if it's a good idea or not? Sorry for lengthy message and thanks.

WLM is Windows Live Mail. Thank you, that's all I had asked and I wasn't given the options you did.

I differ with you. In Windows you can "paste" or "type" any text or graphics or anything you want and as many as you want directly into them.

The 2nd paragraph of my answer might've misinterpreted your post. If so, I apologize.

Rereading my earlier post, I wrote, "BUT Firefox is not an operating system..." I meant to write "BUT Thunderbird is not an operating system..."

============

A subfolder is a folder in another folder. If you have a manila folder in a file cabinet it would have papers in it, maybe things relating to your family. There could be other folders in that Family folder, maybe one for each your brothers or sisters - those would be subfolders. This is a very simple example of how Windows and Thunderbird keep themselves organized. Just like you can't type into a folder (unless you're writing on it to name it) you can't just enter text into a folder. You have to write that text onto a piece of paper. When you put that piece of paper in the folder, it becomes a file. Everything in any folder is a file.

============

When you wrote that you can't paste text into a folder, did you mean to paste text into the folder to name it?

When you make a new folder (or sub folder), you right click the folder you want it in and select New Folder (or New Sub folder). When you do this, a small dialog box opens up (see pic) with a place for to enter the name you want for the new folder (see 2nd pic).

Later on, if you want to change the name of this folder, right click it, select Rename and follow the prompts.

Again, with Thunderbird you cannot just enter some text into a folder. In Thunderbird everything in folders are email messages.

Well, bottom line is simply that the non-system folders here are useless period. There's nothing I can do about it so it is what it is.

On another matter, there's a number of other things that I was told somewhere how to do, but on trying did not work. So I'll confine my questions on why these particular things aren't working. Thanks for your post.
