Hello. I had the same impression as you about the ads blockers and looking for a bit I could see that Firefox will use another way to manage modules, from version 57 onwards. It seems that some modules are already adapted while others are still in validation phase with Mozilla. I invite you to read the documentation of Firefox on the add-ons where you will find all useful information. Greetings.

Happy 112, I have tried UBlock and Adblock, and both are not working fully. By that I mean, some ads are blocked while others are not. When I access UBlock, which was the ad blocker I was using, there is a link that says legacy, which from what I understand should be the version of the ad blocker I should be trying if the current version is not working. But, when I try and access the legacy version of UBlock, I get the message "this version will not work with your current version of Firefox". So, I'm sort of left hanging and wondering what to do with the UBlock add-on, if the alleged fix will not work. As a consequence, I am currently using Adblocker. But that also has ads that are appearing when I use it, where as before it didn't. Any suggestions, Happy112? Thank you.

As for uBlock Origin : did you follow the instructions that are mentioned in the link I gave you earlier :

Hi Happy 112, Yes, I did read the article you mentioned earlier. But, the article was so confusing and seemingly unproductive. The article seemed to say, either don't use Firefox at all, or try to uninstall UBlock and then install it again. Which I did, to no avail. I initially thought when I did, it worked. But the action proved to NOT work, unfortunately. So, I am left where I'm at now. Just how do I install a ad blocker that NOW works with Firefox? Why is it now it appears no ad blockers work with Firefox? Can you help me figure out which ad blockers can or will work with Firefox? Hopefully, you can help. Thank you, Happy112.

The point is that all of the plugins are turning or are Legacy and it doesn't fully function with current Firefox's architecture. New API and general changes make it hard for developers to update it that fast. You can try looking into options of making legacy plugins work properly, but until they are written to the new API, the issues will keep happening.

Greetings, sorry about that, went full programmer for a moment. API = Set of functions or code parts that allow you to interact with other programs or code. In a sense, extension/plugin/add-on (However people name it on their platforms) uses set of rules to access browser functions.

I haven't done this myself, but if I find the instructions for it, I will gladly share it (Sorry for not helping extensively). (Related to Legacy plugins for new firefox versions)

It is a very viable solution to use an older version of Firefox.

Update: Apparently uBlock has been rewritten on the new WebExtensions API so it should work. Make sure you remove the plugin entirely, update Firefox to the newest version and add uBlock afterward. That should pretty much work.

If you don't want to use uBlock Origin (just yet) and rather use AdBlock Plus, but don't want to be annoyed by these 'whitelisted' ads, here's what you can do :

Click on the ABP icon => Filter Preferences and uncheck: 'Allow some non-intrusive advertising' Then click 'Close'.

Sweet, glad you got everything working! If you need any more help, I will gladly help you. Oh and on the side note, if any other plugins malfunction, make sure you check developers website or try to remove it and re-add it. Right now, there are going to be a lot of concerns related to it.

Yesterday, October 09, 2017, I had Two virus nuisances on my Yahoo email page! My Avast A/V kept alerting "Link: edge-quantserve.com is infected with: JS:Miner-C[Trj]". Since it was alerting when the email page was open, and I was just letting the cursor sit there, I am guessing that it was alerting on one of the advertisements that was being blocked! The ad was consuming bandwidth and computer resources, while being blocked.

The other was the Scareware discussed in:

It popped up! I guess the whitelisting doesn't work so well. I also note that some ads keep popping up!
