Late yesterday (on 18 Aug. 2017) my Yahoo account on TB quit sending and receiving mail. Today, my entire folder structure has disappeared, even the Inbox. Nothing left but the Settings window for the email address. I removed the account and opened a new one. Now the Inbox is there, but I get the attached message when I open the Inbox, and no mail appears. I'm using Version 38.5.0.

What is wrong here?

Thank you for the Yahoo Forums link. It didn't directly answer my question or solve my problem, but in logging in and out of Yahoo several times, I found myself having to give myself permission to login to Yahoo on my laptop by tapping a key on my Android phone. That suggested that my experiment in signing in with my Yahoo app, which I had activated just a few days earlier, might be creating problems for my Thunderbird Yahoo account.

When I reversed the experiment, disconnecting my Yahoo phone app, the entire folder tree was restored and I am able to use it as before.

The Yahoo app is treacherous. I won't forget that.

Version 38 isn't supported. That said, removing and adding an account back rarely helps anything.

You seem to be aware that Yahoo has many problems recently. Do these help? https://forums.yahoo.net/t5/Account-security/CLIENTBUG-SELECT-command-is-not-valid-in-this-state/td-p/300162 http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3032176
