What happened to import export tools/add-ins in T'bird Beta?

On 10 august I downloaded/installed T'Bird Beta and realized today that all add-ons/extensions are unavailable (i.e. greyed out). What's up with this? Why didn't T'bird indicate that they'd be removed with the installation? Tx,

It looks like you were referring to that page on addons.mozilla.org from within the Search page in Thunderbird, not the Add-ons Manager itself with installed add-ons (the Extensions panel, where they should still be enabled). On that search page, add-ons could be greyed out allright, simply because the page does check for the Thunderbird version, as indicated when hovering the mouse over their descriptions or buttons.

However you should still be able to install add-ons in Thunderbird by visiting the Thunderbird Add-ons page on AMO according to the instructions when downloading them, or as given in Installing an Add-on in Thunderbird. When using the shared profile, there would be no need to reinstall them.

Note that for the ImportExportTools add-on - in case you need to reinstall it - there is a newer version available on the author’s web page as indicated on AMO.

As far as I know, add-ons that are no longer or not yet supported in new Thunderbird versions should still be enabled, often causing things to break, but they should not be greyed out. If not, it may be an issue with the current Thunderbird Beta, perhaps for your system configuration.

In order to pinpoint that, you could install a zip version of Thunderbird Nightly (just unzip it in a folder and run it - of course when not running the Beta too) and see what the add-ons do there. After all, you are testing it, aren’t you? ;)

Btw, are you using the same profile for the release and Beta version? I think this should be no issue, but it would be good to know.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, same profile: I treated the installation of T'Bird Beta as if it were a simple update--foolishly, maybe--and will follow your advice and install T'Bird Nightly, which I had never heard of prior to now and of which I have no real knowledge.

Below is the first page within "Add Ons"; note all the greyed out options.

Again, thanks.

Is that not Firefox?

Nope, T'Bird. Downloaded and installed 10 August.

Here's my Thunderbird add-ons page. Nothing like yours. TB56.0b2, most add-ons available.

Are you running the new Beta version?

I went directly to Extensions within the Add-ons manager and all that was listed was Lightning (which I never use); all the others were gone, and there was no history of my ever having installed them. So I reinstalled "Import Export Tools" from the "Install from a file" option in the settings gear (top right), and it's back.

Question is, why did it disappear in the first place. But thanks for the help.
