Would like to know how to back up emails, I use Linux
I would like to back up my emails onto a USB stick - I am a Linux user. Would be grateful for a reply not too complicated for a rather green computer user, thanks.

I'd rather backup the entire profile. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
So would I, that is why I suggested the import export tools. the options for the add-on even include a scheduled back-up for the profile. I am not sure when it was slipped in there, I am pretty sure it was not in older versions. It is however there now and make the process very simple for the file system challenged.

Install the import export tools add-on and use it's menu system to create a backup.
Once the add-on is installed it will be Tools menu > import export tools > option to schedule your backup. Or you could use the manual export a profile option.
Thanks for replying - am studying it carefully and will come back if I can't understand it.
Thanks to Matt and christ1, really your replies are above my head, but am hoping my husband can shed some light!
