Chosen solution

Make sure you copy any messages you want to keep to your 'Local Folders' account prior to deleting the account.

To delete the account:
Edit - Account Settings
Press Alt or F10 in case the menu bar is hidden.
In the Account Settings window select the account to be removed in the left pane.
Then choose 'Remove Account' from the 'Account Actions' drop-down menu at the bottom.
