After changing my email password on my email providers system (btinternet.com), how do I change it withhin Thunderbird? (ian.masson7@btinternet.com)
As mentioned, I had to change my email password on BT's site for my btinternet.com account. When opening Thunderbird, selecting Tools, Account Settings, I am unable to see my old password, or where to change my password. Any pointers greatfully acepted. kind regards, Ian

re :when I fire Thunderbird up, to Get Mail it asks for my new password once per session,
Q: when you have typed in the password at the prompt, but before you click on 'OK' or press 'Enter'........ Do you select the checkbox to 'Use Password Manager to remember the password? If no, then select it the next time.
Do you use anything like CCleaner program ? If yes, to avoid any issues with passwords being auto removed, you need to make sure it does not scan any Thunderbird folder. Recently, CCLeaner has been responsible for removing 'prefs.js' files rendering profiles useless.

Thank you Airmail. Sadly the Show Passwords button is greyed out, so can't select it.
Are there any accounts listed on the password page?
Sadly no. In Saved Logins, under Logins for the following site are stored on your computer, is nothing. The Remove, Remove All and Show Passwords buttons are greyed out.
Do you normally enter the password each time you open Thunderbird?
When you first open Thunderbird, does it ask you for a Password?
Have you by any chance set a 'Master Password' ?
Cheers Toad-Hall. Before I changed my email password for my btinternet.com emails, Thunderbird was all set up and I never had to type in my password. Since changing my btinternet.com email password, when I fire Thunderbird up, to Get Mail it asks for my new password once per session, if I send an email, it asks me to type my new password in once for the session.
Master Password in Security setting is not checked and the button is greyed out.

Hi Toad-Hall, I checked the Use Master Password, as you suggested. Everything is A OK. I can go in and out of Thunderbird, get mail, send mail and not type my email password in. Thank you very much for your most valued assistance.

I need to reset my password for thunderbird
where do I find my old password for Thunderbird
There is no password for Thunderbird. Your email account with your provider has a password. You have to work with them to reset your email password..
The process to view what you have told Thunderbird to remember is documented above

Hello, Is this only for PC's? I can't find "Options" on my Imac. Is this in the Thunderbird menu?

By the way Airmail. This thread solved my problem you'd tried to help me with on a thread of mine. I had previously checked the password manager box but it must have been before I changed my user name for this account because it didn't work that time. Now I'm able to send from my primary account again...thanks!
