Why are bookmarks still syncing after I deselected it?

I have deselected "bookmarks" under "sync across all devices", yet my bookmarks are still appearing on a device which I do not wish them to be.

Chosen solution

Once bookmarks are on a device, disabling Sync won't remove previously synchronized bookmarks; but additional bookmarks won't appear on that device.
