FAKE Firefox updates are still being recieved
Since the summer of 2016 I have periodically received FAKE Firefox updates. I have noticed that many others are complaining of both in the Mozilla Forums and in various places on the internet. There seems to be no general consensus to a fix or a way to block these notices that presumably contain some form of malware. I have ran Malwarebytes, CCleaner and uninstalled various java related programs and nothing has worked.
I even came across what I presume to be a "Fake" website purporting to have a repair for the issue which is here: http://virusguides.com/remove-firefox-patch-js/
This website attempts to offer a 'manual' fix while simultaneously saying "if you want to do it the easy way download SpyHunter"....A review of this program from PCMag.com seems to offer a fair review of the program (see PCMag review here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1523245,00.asp ) ...But if you read the comments from end users at the end of the article you see that MULTIPLE people have found that it installs more malware than it removes.
The bottom line is there has to be a way that the update is either being requested by some program that's been installed on a users PC,,,,,,OR,,,,somehow the developer is sending it to a specific group of people. Why can't the Mozilla Firefox developers figure out what this is?
One thing I recently did was install and then uninstall an "Ad Blocker" as a "Plugin" for Firefox. After I "uninstalled" (because it was slowing my computer down),,,,the issue seems to be exacerbated.
