I am going to show you how to find the "Remove Account" option.

"Remove Account" does what it says. Some users seem surprised that when they click "Remove Account" it removes the account, and that means all the folders in that account, along with all the messages inside those folders.

If there is anything in this account you want to keep, move it to another account NOW.

How to remove an account.

You need to open Account Settings. Here are 4 ways to do that:

  • Tools|Account Settings
  • |Options|Account Settings
  • Select any account and select Settings from the right-hand pane
  • Right-click any account and select Settings in the pop-up menu

Now you have Account Settings open, select the account you don't want, click the button at the bottom of the left-hand pane that lists your accounts. In my picture this is labelled "Account Actions"; yours may say something else. Click it and among the options offered there will be "Remove account".

THANK YOU so much Zenos for explaining that removing an account includes the removal of all its folders AND contents!!! Most valuable information since one wouldn't expect this.  :)

If I may intrude, I found the "Remove Account" link but it's greyed out. I already have a default address, so it's not a default one...

Will appreciate knowing this as I MUST remove it, and luckily I'm just installing Thunderbird now so no folders or files to fear losing... Thanks again. Adela

P.S. If there's no way to delete it, then do you think deleting both my accounts completely would work? And if not, uninstalling Thunderbird and starting from scratch, this time much more carefully?
