How to eliminate the advertising for TB on startup?

Uncheck Options /general / Thunderbirds startpage / When .....

If you are referring to the message in the "Reading Pane" that says:

Welcome to Thunderbird
Donate to Thunderbird

Then you can stop from seeing this by not using the "Reading Pane". Press F8, or: Thunderbird Menu: View: Layout: Message Pane (uncheck)

You will then need to double-click on an e-mail to see it instead of seeing it in the Reading Pane.

I found the menu and the checked box. I could not un-check the box and F8 would not respond. Thanks for your reply.
