Hi everybody.

I have an account, which i have running with these settings on my mobile phone.

try to use thunderbird because the web-mailer's spam filter is horrible plus i would like to get better organized again (which is quite difficult on the webmailer) . I had some problems with outlook and so i wanted to use thunderbird.

anyhow, get the software to receive messages but it cannot send.

i tried basically any possible combinations of Connection Security (STARTTLS and SLL/TLS) , authentication method and ports (25, 465 and 587)

i also shortly switched off the avira scanner, but it didnt help...

really don't know how to continue..

btw. just tried on outlook again and it seems to do the same

Alright, thanks for your help but I let you tap in the dark.

so super sorry but i forgot to tell you that I am using a VPN. I was now able to figure out the problem with the support from my VPN service. they had to whitelist my sMTP server as they do block those standardwise (in order to prevent people of using their VPN with automatic SPAM mailers)

When you click on 'Send' button, what happens? Do you get any error messages? If yes, what does it say...word for word?

In addition, to help understand your current configuration settings........ Please post the following information: In Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'Copy text to clipboard' button
  • In this forum question, right click in a 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste'. You can edit/remove all info on fonts and printers, but nothing else.

re: OUTGOING: , mail.fosera.com:25, alwaysSTARTTLS, passwordEncrypted, true

Check to see if port 25 is being blocked. A lot of ISP's now block port 25. The link below has good help on how to check this.

What results did you get?

Suggest you try: Outgoing Server SMTP settings: Server Name: many server names use 'mail' or smtp' before the domain name. As you already have 'mail.fosera.com', keep it and change other settings as shown below.

  • port 587
  • Connection Security: STARTTLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password.

click on OK

Restart Thunderbird test sending a 'Write' email

If no joy.... Then keep the same settings but change the server name to: smtp.fosera.com

Restart Thunderbird test sending a 'Write' email
